What is the Challenge?

Ten editions, five women in each. One same message: life goes on.

The Pelayo Vida Challenge is a Annual expedition starring five women who have overcome cancer. Together they face a sporting challenge in some of the most extreme locations on the planet.

More than an adventure, it's a message of hope For all the women fighting illness or who have already overcome it.

Each edition demonstrates that, even after the most difficult moments, there is always a way to regain trust, move forward, and feel alive again. Because after cancer, life doesn't just go on: it also it can open the door to a new way of looking at the world, to feel strong and to dare again.

Senegal

Through mangroves, deltas, and West African villages, this expedition will test the resilience and bravery of the female adventurers. By bicycle, kayak, and on foot, each stage will be an act of effort, discovery, and connection with nature and local communities.

Costa Rica

From coast to coast, through jungles, rivers, and mountains, this expedition is a journey of pure adventure and determination. Pedaling, walking, and rowing, each stretch becomes an act of courage and connection with nature.

On the planet's most extreme continent, among icebergs and glaciers, this expedition challenges the limits of endurance and bravery. Navigating, walking, and paddling in extreme conditions transforms into an act of courage and camaraderie.

Patagonia

Among glaciers, ice, and rocks, this expedition tests physical and mental endurance. Ascending Cerro Gorra Blanca, crossing Paso Marconi, and discovering imposing landscapes make every step an act of overcoming challenges.

285 kilometers of desert, canyons, and mountains by mountain bike, with rappelling in Wadi Mujib and climbing in Jebel Rum. From the Red Sea to the Valley of the Moon, an experience of endurance, determination, and camaraderie in the heart of wild Jordan.

North 66

In the purest Arctic, surrounded by ice, glaciers, and rough seas, every day is a challenge of endurance and bravery. Navigating extreme temperatures turns every moment into a lesson in strength and resilience.

Tour of Spain

Sailing the Iberian Peninsula, facing seas, wind, and waves, turns this expedition into a journey of discovery and courage. Stepping aboard the boat, taking watches, and working as a team transforms every mile into an act of overcoming challenges and camaraderie.

Andes

Through the Uyuni Salt Flats and ascending volcanoes like Acotango and Nevado Sajama, this high-altitude adventure tests endurance and bravery. Each pedal stroke and each summit reached is a reminder of the strength that emerges after overcoming extreme challenges.

Annapurna Bike

400 kilometers of cycling in the Annapurna Valley, reaching nearly 4,000 meters in altitude. An epic journey of effort and endurance that connects villages, majestic landscapes, and personal growth.

Polar

Traveling 122 km in Greenland, with 30 kg on your back and sub-zero temperatures, makes this expedition a challenge of endurance and bravery. Each step over ice and glaciers is an act of courage that inspires strength and overcoming adversity.

Transatlantic

They cross the Atlantic in 13 days and 8 hours, facing waves, wind, and nights under sail. Every mile navigated is a testament to courage, teamwork, and determination.

Kilimanjaro

Ascending Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro, traversing forests, deserts, and glaciers, makes this expedition by cancer survivors a unique and inspiring experience that remains etched in memory and heart.

How to participate?

Each year, a call is opened to select the five women who will be part of the next edition of Pelayo Vida Challenge.

The selection process consists of three phases:

1st Registration Form: Fill out the form and tell us your story.

2nd Personal Interview: The preselected candidates will be contacted for an online interview.

3rd Selection Test: The finalists will participate in a sports training day with the rest of the pre-selected candidates. After the test, the five expeditionaries for the challenge will be selected.

Is there a cost to participate?

Travel expenses for the pre-selection test and the final test will be borne by the candidate.

Once you are part of the five expeditionaries of the Reto Pelayo Vida, the organization will cover all expenses related to the expedition: transportation, accommodation, materials, and activities of the Challenge.

What physical condition do I need to be in?

You don't need to be a professional athlete or have extreme adventure experience.

It is important to be in good physical and mental condition to safely undertake the expedition. You will need endurance and the ability to sustain prolonged efforts in demanding environments.

If you are one of the five selected, you will receive guided preparation from the sports director before the Challenge, so that you arrive with confidence and security in the corresponding discipline.

Who can participate?

The Pelayo Vida Challenge is for women who have overcome cancer and want to live a transformative adventure. Women ready to prove to themselves, and to the world, that life after illness is lived with strength.

What is the selection process like?

Each year, we open a call for applications to select the five women who will be the stars of the new edition of the Pelayo Vida Challenge. The process is transparent and consists of three key steps:

  • 1. Registration form: When registration opens, the Challenge form will be available on the website, which will allow us to get to know you a little better.

  • 2. Personal Interview: We conduct a pre-selection of candidates to get to know each other better through an online interview. It's time to resolve your doubts and share expectations.

  • 3. Final selection test: The finalists will experience an in-person training and bonding day. Here we will evaluate teamwork and adaptability, after which the five selected expedition members will be announced.

What if I don't feel ready?

No one is born ready for a challenge like this., we prepare you. The Pelayo Vida Challenge includes professional support from the moment you are chosen as a candidate: training, medical advice, and a technical team that will provide you with the necessary tools.
